How to Play Blackjack: An Ultimate Guide

A complete guide on how to play blackjack

This game allows players to draw cards with a total of 21 or less than the dealer. The face value of all cards is equal, with the exception of Jack, Queen, King and Jack, which count as 10. An Ace is worth 11 unless it gives a dealer or player more than 21. In which case, it will be worth 1.

The Dealer begins the game. Each player gets two cards face up.

The Dealer is given two cards. However, one card is facing up and one faces down--the Hole Cards. The Dealer only exposes the Hole Card after all the players have played their hands and plays the Dealer's hand. All cards are dealt using a shoe.

Once you have two cards in your hand, you have the option to either stand or draw one more card until you reach 21. You will lose if your hand goes over 21. A winning hand is worth even money.

Now, the Dealer flips over the Hole Card. He or she will act according to the rules. The Dealer must draw 16 and then stand when the dealer reaches 17. If your count is greater than the Dealer's, the game ends with a Stand-Off. If the Dealer's or player's counts are equal, but not exceeding 21, the dealer wins.

*NOTE - Some Blackjack tables will reach soft 17. All tables will clearly indicate the soft 17 rule.

What if Blackjack were available immediately?

The Dealer will call your hand Blackjack if your first two cards consist of an Ace and any ten value card. Unless the Dealer has an Ace and a ten-value face up card, you will not receive payment. In such cases, the Dealer's Hole Card will be checked to determine if you are eligible for payment. If the Dealer's hand includes Blackjack, the stake is a stand-off and the player does not win or lose. At odds 3 to 2, a Blackjack player wins is paid. If the player wins Blackjack and the Dealer draws 21 with more cards than 2, the Blackjack hand is the winning one. You will receive a payout of 3 to 2. The Dealer's Blackjack wins if the player draws 21 cards with more than two.

*NOTE - Some Blackjack tables will pay Blackjack odds between 6 and 5. All tables will clearly indicate the Blackjack odds payoff.

You can even make money:

Blackjack players can choose to get paid even money for their Blackjack Wagers instead of placing an Insurance Wager. This option can be used simultaneously with the dealer offering insurance to the players (before he/she checks to see whether he/she is Blackjack). If the player decides

Instead of getting insurance, players can choose to opt for the even money option. Players will receive 1-1 payments immediately. This player has been dealt the final word.

*NOTE - If there are 6 to 5 Blackjack payoff options, money is not an option.

SIDE BETS:

Side bets on Blackjack will be available, including Kings Bounty 21 + 3 Xtreme, Blazing 7's progressive and Blazing 7’s Progressive. These bets will not change the game of Blackjack in any way, but they give the player an opportunity to make additional wagers which will pay odds according to the hand of the dealer and players.

KINGS BOUNTY

The Kings Bounty bet is that the player will have 20 cards. To play the Kings Bounty bet, the player must first make a regular Blackjack wager. Unless the dealer has a higher hand, the player will get 100 to 1, if his first two cards are both Kings of Spades.

21 + 3 XTREME:

If the dealer's up card is used, the player will be dealt three mixed 7s. He/she will receive 200 for 1. For each three non-suited 7s the player is dealt, 500 will be paid. If the player is dealt three non-Diamond 7s, he/she'll be paid 500. If the player is dealt three 7-of-Diamonds, he/she will be paid at 100%.

BLACKJACK TERMS

SPLITTING PARTS:

You can split your first two cards if they are a pair of the same numerical value. For each pair split, you must wager the same amount as your original wager. If the Dealer receives Blackjack, only your original wager is collected.

Play must be completed on the first hand before you can start playing the second. Each hand can be doubled down. Split pairs of Aces will give you one card each, for a total two hands. A player can split any other split pairs if the second dealt card is the same in value as the card from the split pair. For a total three hands, A total of two hands can be used to split Aces.

*NOTE - Players can split up to three (3) times for a total play of four (4) hands, except where otherwise noted on the table.

SURRENDER:

Surrender allows players the option to give up half their wager, provided that the Dealer does NOT have Blackjack. If the dealer's faceup card is an Ace or 10, Jack, Queen, or King, the Dealer will verify that they have Blackjack. If the dealer's face up card is an Ace, 10, Jack, Queen or King, the Dealer will check to make sure they have Blackjack. The player can then surrender half of their wager to the dealer when it comes time to act on their hand. This can be done by the player using a verbal order and a hand signal (one hand moving left to right) in front of the wager.

*NOTE - Surrender is not possible at all Blackjack tables. It will be clearly displayed on the table.

DOUBLING DOWN

Once you have your first pair of cards, or your first card from a split pair, you can make an additional wager. You cannot do this if your first cards total 21. Doubling Down allows you to draw only one card. If the dealer wins Blackjack, you only collect the original wager.

INSURANCE:

If the dealer's face up card shows an Ace, and before anyone receives additional cards, you can take insurance. This is done by placing a bet that does not exceed one-half the original wager on the insurance line. Your insurance bet will win if the Dealer’s Hole Card contains a 10, Jack, Queen or King. You lose if your Dealer's Hole Card is any other card.

Your insurance wager. The dealer collects all lost insurance wagers before continuing with the hand. The Dealer will collect all losing insurance wagers before the hand continues.
