The Power of a Poker Face

The Power of a Poker Face

RONALD RIGGIO PHD HAS BEEN RESEARCHING AT THE California State University at Fullerton FOR OVER 17 YEARS. He is interested in what makes people attractive. He is a specialist in charisma. Riggio found that emotional expression is an important aspect of charisma. It's the ability to express your emotions through your facial expressions so others can see how you feel. People who aren't able to express emotion clearly on their faces won't be a good choice for us. One of his conclusions was this:

It seems very obvious.

Riggio also discovered that Charisma is dependent on the ability not to show emotion. He refers to it as "emotional command." This is what I refer to as a "poker-face" because you don't want others to know when you get a good hand at poker. The same goes for a poor hand. This gives your opponents an advantage when they bet against you. When you play poker, it is important to not express your feelings too often. You can only give away how you look, so show as little emotion as you can.

You can improve your ability to smile when you are in need of it, and only when you do. This will increase your communication skills with others. Why? Because emotions are contagious when seen. If you see someone laughing, it can make you feel like you are laughing too. Sure. You can feel sad when you see someone else crying. Naturally. It's the reason actors who are good at acting are so valued. They can make you feel emotions. Everybody has a tendency of feeling the emotion seen on someone's faces.

However, some may wonder: What's so wrong with this?

Except for a few occasions. Problem is, there are emotions that you wouldn't wish for another person to feel. Social awkwardness and anger are two examples. Anger can cause the other person to become defensive or anxious if they see you getting angry. This can cause communication to become difficult.

It happens when someone feels socially awkward. If you are a person who feels awkward and doesn't know how to act, it is likely that you also feel awkward. How about when someone who is giving a speech feels awkward in front of the group. Are you a little uncomfortable looking at the group?

In such situations, people and their friends would be happier if they could conceal the emotions they feel.

There are instances when certain words may not be appropriate. A widow should not say "the dude owe me money" at a funeral. Certain situations and times are better left unsaid. While emotion may not be expressed verbally, it is still communication. It is possible to feel uncomfortable or angry by expressing nonverbally.

It's possible to learn how to play poker when you're in need. I'm not saying you should pretend to be happy, or act happy, when you're really angry. It's important to be able to express your emotions without displaying them. This skill is just like any other and can be improved by practice. using the power of poker
