Texas Hold’em: Rules & Basic Strategy

Texas Hold'em: Basic Strategy & Rules

Texas Hold'em Poker is quickly becoming the most loved card game in all of the world. Texas Hold'em was first popularized in 1998 by the film "Rounders".

The World Series of Poker was held by ESPN in 2003. Chris Moneymaker won it, bringing Texas Hold'em to new heights.

The 2003 World Series of Poker attracted 839 participants, with a tripling of that number in 2004. This trend continued until the 2006 World Series of Poker which saw 8,773 players and a $12,000,000 first place prize to Jamie Gold.

The boom in online poker came around the same time. It quickly became a huge hit with poker enthusiasts. With constant cash games, sit n go's, multi-table tournaments, and continuous running cash games the hands were dealt much faster. Online poker is a great way to earn a place in the World Series of Poker.

Most of the top poker players today that compete in the World Series are also available online at various poker sites.

How To Play Texas Holdem Poker

Hold'em consists of two cards that are dealt pre-flop to each player and five community cards that are dealt face up over three rounds. The big blind and the small blind rotate clockwise around the table. The big blind is always equal to the small blind.

After each player has been dealt their two cards, the first round is where players decide if they want their hands to be played. After each player has chosen to bet, call or raise their hand, the dealer turns over three cards. This is called the 'flop'. The next round of betting is done in a clockwise manner.

The turn is when only one card is turned over on the flop. This leaves four cards facing up on the board. Next, there is another round of wagering. The river is the last card to be turned over. This is followed by another round of betting, where players show their cards and the winner takes the pot.

There are two types of poker games: tournaments or cash games. Cash games allow players to play at their own pace and can leave at any moment. The poker chips, which are real money, are able to be withdrawn at any time. Players pay a fixed entry fee for tournaments. The game continues until one player has all of the chips. Based on the place where a player finishes, winnings are paid out.

There are also Sit n Go tournaments and Mult Table Tournaments. Sit n Go tournaments have a fixed number of players, such that 10, 20, or 30, for example. Once this number has been reached, the game can begin. Sit n Go is most common online.

Multi-Table Tournaments start at a certain time. Anyone can register before or after the tournament starts. However, the numbers are subject to change daily. Multi-Table Tournaments can offer large payouts, up to the millions for a big tournament like the WSOP final.

Texas Hold'em Rules

You need to understand the rules of Texas Hold'em before you sit down at a Texas Hold'em table. Online Hold'em games usually enforce these rules so that no one can break them.

Only bet/call/raise/fold if the action is upon you.

Never touch chips belonging to other players.

Minimum bets must be at least twice as high. For example, if the blinds were 10/20, then you need to raise at most 40.

Only one bet can be placed on a hand if there are more than two players.

You can't add chips to a cash game but you can buy chips between hands.

These are the basics of poker games. They may change depending on who you're playing with. There may be rules that are slightly different if you play in a house game alongside some friends.Texas Hold Em Sit N Go – Playing the Big Blind
