A brief history of poker
This is a quick history of poker. Poker is one of the most widely played casino card games.

It is still a controversial question as to the origins of the game. One theory suggests that poker was invented in China before 969 AD. It is based upon a report that Emperor Mu Tsung played dominoes with his wife on New Years' Eve.

Another theory states that the origins of playing cards can be traced back to the Egyptians of the 12th and the 13th centuries. "Treasure Cards," which were used for various gambling games in Persia's 16th century, is another. The Persian game "As Nas", which required rounds of betting and a deck with 25 cards.
In 16th-century Spain, poker was first made popular by Primero, a game where three cards were dealt to each participant. These players not only bet against one another but also attempted to bluff with poor cards.
Bluffing and betting
This game has been confirmed to be the earliest form of modern-day poker by virtue of its bets and bluffs. In France, Poque, a Spanish version of the game, was popularized, while Pochen, a German version, is thought to have been influenced by it. It's the French version of the game that has made it to America.
French colonists brought this game to Canada, and then to New Orleans.
Poker is a game that was born in the United States, and it's true that the Big Easy, Mississippi River Boats, and the Big Easy are where it all began.
The earliest written evidence for the game can even be found in 1834. Funny enough, poker was called the "cheating game" in the United States' first written records. Its biggest rival was 3 card monte.
Poker's popularity stems from the fact that it is more honest than 3 card monte.
Poker moved westward from the riverboats to the saloons at the frontier where many of the best poker stories are made.
Poker was popularized during the Civil War on both the Mason Dixon and Mason Dixon lines.
