How to choose the most profitable poker table
What are we looking for?
We want to find the fish. We look for bad players who play too many hands against all odds, chase, and hope to hit cards with the flops, turns, rivers, and make their hand regardless of how unlikely it might be.
You can only do this in a live casino if you stand up and look at the tables, and then spot the one that is chasing.
Online poker eliminates the need to spend time and guesswork on observation. Each table is given statistics in the lobby. This is extremely useful considering that there are hundreds of tables.
So how do you choose the most profitable table for your business?
It is important to make sure you are looking at the right tables. This course will focus on the No Limit Texas Hold'em ring (cash game) and will include the Poker Bankroll Challenge.
You can now go to the lobby and look at the ring tables. To do this, click on the Holdem tab, then select the No Limit button. The tables we're looking for are the tables with 9 players and a 5c/10c table. This course will feature full tables of 9 to 10 players, so it is possible to ignore the 6-player tables.
Take a look at the available tables and you'll see many statistics. Let us take a quick look at their meanings.
Players - The maximum number of players at the table. Eg: "7/9", 7 players sat with 2 spare seats.
Stakes: The stakes refer to the size of both the small blind (0.05c) and the large blind (0.05c). For example, "5c/10c", the small blind is $5.05 ($0.05) while the big blind is $10.10.
Limit - The type and amount of Poker Betting Limit. This can be No Limit, Pot Limit, Limit (Fixed), or Limit (Fixed).
Type - Each poker room will have icons that indicate the type of game they are, such as an icon for webcam tables. A legend usually explains the icons at the lobby's bottom.
Average Pot – Self-explanatory. Keeps track of all winning pot amounts and gives an average size pot as a statistic to the table.
Players / Flop: The average number players who see the flip. This means that at most 9 players, this would mean that at least 4 (or 9 x 455) players see every flop.
Hands / Hour: This shows how fast the table is moving and shows the average number of hands each hour.
Wait - When a table is full, you can sign up to be on the waitinglist. Players who leave the table are automatically moved onto the next available seat. This statistic displays how many people currently are on the Waiting List.
Players per Flop - The Fish-o Meter
To begin with, we want to know the % players who see the Flop. This column is called the Players per Flop. This number shows us the average % players who see each flip. This is our Fisho-meter. It tells us the average % of players who see each flop.
Why? You see, fish are known to chase bad cards and play hands they shouldn't fold. This is why you will find more players trying each flop with no proper hand selection.
