BEATING THE ODS: FIVE STRATAGES TO WIN YOUR FIRST POKER PARTNERSHIP
There are many reasons people enjoy poker. Poker skills can be applied to many other areas of life, as it is a game of strategy. Because poker requires many skills that are directly transferable to business, businesspeople could learn from some of the best players. You can use these skills in business and poker.
Tournament Play
Most people learn poker by playing single-table games with 5 to 8 other players. This allows you to start learning to read the other players, without having to memorise too much. Some people only play for fun and do not progress beyond the smaller games they play with friends. Tournaments are a great way to win big if you take your poker seriously.
It is possible to make the difference between reaching the final table and getting knocked out early in a tournament if you have a well-planned strategy. Nervousness can make it difficult to play in your first tournament. This is true whether you gamble online or face-to-face with your opponents. You may host a small tournament in your local casino or you could hold a satellite for a larger tour. No matter what the size of the event, the best players are those who have learned strategy and the rules.
1: Stealing the Blinds
As tournaments progress, the blinds rise and often an ante is added. This means that even though nobody is betting, there is usually a good amount in the pot. If there are antes, players who bet 2.25x the big blind have a better chance of winning than losing. This does NOT mean you have to play every hand. Players with reasonable hands who raise by 2.25x the big blind are statistically more likely to win than lose.
2: Defense of the Blinds
If they don't defend the big blinds in the latter stages of a tournament, even large stacks run the risk to be slowly blinded out. The big blind is a position that allows players to play out of their positions in later rounds. However, it offers great pot odds. A strong player will try to protect at least 40% of their bigblinds from late position raises. Beating the Odds in Poker
